WINCHESTER, Va. - After a surprisingly close opening period, the Shenandoah University women's basketball team shifted gears and pulled away from visiting Villa Julie College to win 72-38 in a non-conference game Tuesday evening in Shingleton Gymnasium.

The Hornets (8-12) appeared to be going through the motions in the first half as the Mustangs (3-18) shot an impressive 52.4 percent (11-for-21) from the floor and trailed just 32-27 at the intermission.

Unfortunately for the visitors, Shenandoah came to play in the second half and took control from the outset. The Hornets opened with a 10-3 run capped-off by a jumper in the paint from freshman Cassie Womack (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield) at the 14:33 mark that put the game out of reach, 44-30, and allowed the rout to ensue.

SU held Villa Julie to a school record low 11 points after the break as the visitors shot 4 for 29 (13.8 percent) in the face of the Hornets strong defensive pressure.

All nine Shenandoah players in uniform scored at least two points. Junior Adina Trammel (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun Co.) and freshman Alicia Sanders (Wardensville, W.Va./East Hardy) topped the roster with 12 points apiece while Womack and junior Jenny Gray (Sumerduck, Va./Liberty) also hit double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Mustangs Lorrie Budd led all scorers with 21 points. Budd had nine of her squad's 11 points in the second.
