Greensboro Dominates Women's Lax

WINCHESTER, Va. - Greensboro College used a dominating first half performance to defeat homestanding Shenandoah 18-2 in USA South Women's Lacrosse action Tuesday afternoon.

Greensboro (3-6 overall, 2-1 USA South) led 9-0 at the break and scored the first 13 goals of the game against SU (2-3, 1-1).

The Pride jumped out to the big lead by controlling possession throughout the first 30 minutes of play. Shenandoah was able to win six of the 10 draws during the period, but GC scooped up 23 of the 35 groundballs and took 24 shots to the Hornets five.

Greensboro keeper Kristen McGuire had six saves on the day, but was forced to make just one before intermission.

Coach Lois Bowers club finally got on the board with 17:32 to play when freshman Kelly Matagiese (Cape May, N.J./Lower Cape May) scored an unassisted goal. Matagiese also figured in her team's other tally; she assisted Lauren Prentice (Westminister, Md./Liberty) at the 11:47 mark.

Jenna Gast led the visitors with five goals and four assists while Michele Barker, Rebecca Beninghove and Brittany Metz added three goals apiece.

SU keeper Rosemary Martin (Lovettsville, Va./Loudoun County) made 11 saves in the losing effort.
