BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Senior Tyler Daniel (Richmond, Va./JR Tucker) nailed a grand slam, but it was not enough as Bridgewater College took a 10-5 non-league baseball victory at Jopson Field in Bridgewater Wednesday afternoon.

Bridgewater (2-3) scored two runs in the bottom of the first, three more in the third and five in the fourth to take a commanding 10-1 lead.

SU (0-3) got itself back into the contest on Daniel's shot, his first of the season, in the top of the seventh as the Hornets loaded the bases with one out on two singles and a hit batter. Scott Disch (Front Royal, Va./Warren County) and David Jenkins (Front Royal, Va./Warren County) each singled, then Nick Sborz (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) loaded the bases when he was hit by a pitch. Daniel then stepped up and hit the 15th home run of his career, moving him one behind Keever Davis '99 for third on the all-time list.

Unfortunately for coach Kevin Anderson, the Eagles snuffed out the rally by striking out the next two batters. Shenandoah had nine hits on the day with Jenkins and Disch each contributing two. In addition to Daniel's four RBI, senior Mike Arvizo (Palmdale, Calif./Antelope Valley) drove in one run on one hit in four at-bats.

Freshman Jason Burgess (Severn, Md./Cardinal Gibbons) took the loss after giving up four runs (three earned) on two hits and two walks in 2.1 innings pitched. Senior JR Creamer (Lovettsville, Va./Loudoun Valley) and sophomore Gerry Sasse (Philadelphia, Pa./Penn Charter) threw 2.2 and 3.0 innings in relief, respectively.

Shenandoah is right back in action tomorrow afternoon at Eastern Mennonite. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00.
