Women Wrap Up Season Peacefully

MURFREESBORO, N.C. - Fourth seeded Peace College used a record setting performance from senior guard Brooke Johnson to eliminate No. 5 seed Shenandoah University 90-73 in USA South Tournament quarterfinal round action.

Peace (18-7) got 39 points from Johnson, one off the tournament record, in winning the rubber match between the two teams. SU fell to 12-14 with the loss.

The Hornets fell behind early due in large part to the incredible outside shooting by the Pride. PC went into the locker room at halftime with an eight-point lead, but nailed five-of-nine attempts from beyond the 3-point arc.

Things did not cool off for SU following the intermission, either, as Peace picked up in the second half right where it left off following the first and opened up a 20-point lead midway through the latter stanza.

Shenandoah did its best to battle back from an increasingly worsening situation behind an inspired 18 point effort from senior Adina Trammel (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun Co.), but this would not be the Hornets day as Trammel and the sophomore tandem of Dee Fisher (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) and Joia Davis (Trenton, N.J./Stuart Co.) all fell into foul trouble early on in the contest.

Any hopes were dashed by second team All-USA South pick Johnson, who had her game high 39 points on 9-for-16 shooting from the floor, which included a 6-for-8 night behind the arc as well as a 15-for-17 showing at the charity stripe.

Second-team All-Conference standout Fisher was held to just three points during the game, but freshman Alicia Sanders was able to step off the bench to net 14 of her own.
