WINCHESTER, Va. - The SU baseball team ran its non-league winning streak eight games Wednesday afternoon with 8-7 and 3-1 victories over Oswego (N.Y.) State.
Shenandoah (10-10) won game one when senior Tyler Daniel (Richmond, Va./JR Tucker) hit a two-out walkoff home run to right that scored Josh Bosley (Oakland, Md./Garrett CC) and Dusty Crostic (Chesterfield, Va./LC Bird). The three-run homer, Daniel's fourth of the season, culminated a comeback from six runs down.
Oswego (3-5) scored two runs in the first and four more in the second to chase SU starter Peter Foster (Springfield, Va./West Springfield). Senior JR Creamer (Lovettsville, Va./Loudoun Valley) held the Lakers to one run on three hits and three walks in 4.1 innings of relief before giving way to Gerry Sasse (Philadelphia, Pa./Penn Charter) three batters into the OSU seventh.
Sasse snuffed out the beginnings of a Lakers rally and then earned the win when Daniel hit his 19th career homer.
Shenandoah could muster just five hits in the nightcap, but freshman David Jenkins (Front Royal, Va./Warren County) made it easier by allowing just one run on five hits in the complete game triumph. Jenkins (2-1) struck out six and did not walk a batter.
The Hornets got all the offense they would need in the third when Steven Todd (Hillsboro, Va./Loudoun Valley) led off with a single up the middle, was sacrificed to second and moved to third on a passed ball.
After a walk to Jenkins, Crostic plated Todd with a sacrifice fly to right and Bosley drove in Jenkins with a single to left that gave SU a 2-1 advantage.
Shenandoah added an unearned insurance run one inning later but Jenkins retired the final nine Oswego batters in order to secure the win.
