WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University stayed above .500 on the season by splitting a double-header with USA South opponent Greensboro College, 2-6, 6-4, Saturday afternoon at Bridgeforth Field.

The Hornets (12-11 overall, 3-8 USA South) have now won eight of their last 11 games this year while the Pride (17-7, 5-6) lost to SU for only the third time in three seasons.

Shenandoah was in good position to take the opening game, trailing 2-1 after five innings, but Greensboro broke the contest open when third baseman Jeremy Egan hit a two-run homer to left center off of SU starter Nick Sborz (Berwick, Penn./Berwick) with no outs in the top of the sixth.

Down 6-1 in the bottom of the last inning, the Hornets began to put together a rally when freshman Jeremy Mason (Inwood, W.Va./Musselman) singled with two men on base to drive in a run. Unfortunately for SU, the next batter grounded into a double-play and the subsequent hitter lined out to short ending the game.

In the late game, Shenandoah took advantage of early pitching miscues from the Pride and its own good hitting to build up a 5-2 lead after five innings.

A pair of wild pitches by Greensboro starter Erik Kutz led directly two a 2-0 SU lead after the first inning and sophomore David Jenkins' (Front Royal, Va./Warren Co.) two-run double in the fourth gave the Hornets the boost in momentum they needed.

Shenandoah starting pitcher Chris Hickerson (Nokesville, Va./Brentsville) was brilliant as usual, allowing just three earned runs in 6.2 innings of work before letting sophomore Gerry Sasse (Philadelphia, Penn./Penn Charter)take over for the save.

Jenkins and senior Mike Arvizo (Palmdale, Calif./Little Rock AVC) led the Hornets at the plate in the nightcap by combining to go 4-8 with four RBI, a pair of doubles, and a home run.
