Hood Cannot Contain Women's Lacrosse

WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah's women's lacrosse team had it's most prolific offensive outing of the season Friday afternoon as the Hornets exploded for an 18-3 victory over visiting Hood College.

The Hornets (3-3) received an early advantage when freshman Kelly Matagiese (Cape May, N.J./Lower Cape May) netted a pair of scores in first 3:02 while the undermanned Blazers (1-5) struggled with only nine players present.

Shenandoah built a 10-0 halftime lead with two goals apiece from Matagiese and classmates Erika Bradd (Front Royal, Va./Warren Co.) and Courtney Beard (Manchester, Md./North Carroll).

Starting goaltender Wendy Taylor (Cape May, N.J./Lower Cape May) made three saves in the first half on her way to earning the victory, while Rosemary Martin (Lovettsville, Va./Loudoun Co.) came in to start the second half and made a pair of saves as the Hornets cruised to the easy win.

Matagiese led SU with five points on three goals and two assists while Bradd, Melissa Bryant (Wilmington, Del./Tatanall School), and Lauren Prentice (Westminster, Md./Liberty) each added three goals and an assist.

Shenandoah will now travel to Averett University for a USA South game against the Cougars tomorrow at 1:30.
