NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - No. 3 Christopher Newport salvaged game three of a weekend USA South Conference series with visiting Shenandoah Sunday afternoon with a 5-4 victory in 10 innings.

Shenandoah (16-14 overall, 5-10 USA South) led 4-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth, but two CNU (14-9, 9-6) runs in the sixth and another in the eighth got the contest to extra frames.

In the bottom of the 10th, Captains first baseman John Corbin led off with a double to right center off losing pitcher Gerry Sasse (Philadelphia, Pa./Penn Charter). Corbin was sacrificed to third and then trotted home with the winning run when Trey Collier singled up the middle through the drawn in infield.

The late inning escaped ruined the Hornets best chance to get the first three-game sweep of the Kevin Anderson era. SU opened up the series Saturday with 8-4 and 14-9 wins.

David Jenkins (Front Royal, Va./Warren County) and Adam Kuchemba (Plains, Pa./Coughlin) both had two hits for Shenandoah.

The Hornets host Bridgewater College Monday night at 6:00 in a non-league contest.
