WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah suffered a pair of difficult losses, 12-3 and 9-2, to USA South opponent Ferrum College Saturday afternoon at Bridgeforth Field.
After winning two of their previous three games coming into the doubleheader, the Hornets (4-7 overall, 1-4 USA South) found themselves in an early 5-0 hole during game one before getting a run across the plate in the bottom of the third against the perennial national powerhouse Panthers (9-3, 4-1).
Senior starting pitcher JR Creamer (Lovettsville, Va./Loudoun Valley) allowed only three earned runs over 4.0 innings pitched, but three SU errors led to another five unearned scores in that same span.
In the nightcap, the Hornets ran into a buzzsaw in the form of FC starting pitcher Curtis Taylor. Taylor was brilliant in his 7.1 innings pitched; he had 17 strikeouts and allowed only one earned run.
Senior first baseman Tyler Daniel (Richmond, Va./JR Tucker) had a pair of hits and drove in the Hornets first run of the game in the eighth inning. Complete boxscores can be found at: http://www.su.edu/athletics/bb/2004/teamstat.htm
Shenandoah will wrap up this three-game series with Ferrum tomorrow afternoon at 1:00.
