WINCHESTER, Va. - The baseball team ended the weekend on a sour note as USA South power Ferrum completed a three-game series sweep with a 14-7 win against Shenandoah at Bridgeforth Field Sunday afternoon.
SU (4-8 overall, 1-5 USA South) fell into another deep hole early on when the Panthers (10-3, 5-1) led 8-0 after scoring six runs in the first and two more one inning later.
Ferrum chased Shenandoah starting pitcher Keith Fritz (Frederick, Md./Frederick CC) after just 2/3 of an inning by plating six runs on four hits in the top of the first.
SU cut the deficit to 10-6 in the fifth inning when senior Josh Bosley (Oakland, Md./Garrett CC) launched a solo shot over the fence in left-center field, but with four unanswered runs over the successive three innings the Panthers smothered all hopes for a Shenandoah comeback.
