FERRUM, Va. - Fourth seeded Shenandoah gave it a great effort, but third seeded Greensboro proved too much in a 19-8 win over the Hornets in the USA South Women's Lacrosse Tournament championship game.
Greensboro (9-8) erased a 3-1 deficit with a five goal run and led 12-5 at halftime over SU (7-6). After the Hornets cut it to 6-4 on an unassisted tally by Becky Smith (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run), GC reeled off 10 of the games next 11 goals to pull away.
Freshman Erika Bradd (Front Royal, Va./Warren County) led all SU scorers with three goals while Sharon Sparwasser (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) add two. Sparwasser finishes her career as the second leading scorer in school history 118 points. Deanna Estes '98 leads with 179.
Bradd, Lauren Carpinello (Spring Lake Heights, N.J./Mansaquah), Joycelyn Cespedes (Virginia Beach, Va./Tallwood) and Heather Lethbridge (Belvidere, N.J./Belvidere) all earned spots on the All-Tournament team.
Today's game ends the Hornets season; this is the most wins the program has turned in since the 1998 team went 9-4.
