FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Shenandoah baseball team split a double-header with USA South opponent Methodist College Saturday afternoon, coming back to win game two 7-3 after losing the opener 6-3.

After dropping the opening game to the Monarchs (17-12 overall, 9-8 USA South), the Hornets (19-15, 6-11) regrouped to earn their first win in Fayetteville since the 2000 season.

In the opening game, SU took an early 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth when David Jenkins (Front Royal, Va./Warren Co.) hit a sacrifice fly ball to bring home Jeremy Mason (Inwood, W.Va./Musselman) with the go-ahead run.

Unfortunately, the Monarchs took advantage of a Shenandoah error and touched starter Chris Hickerson (Nokesville, Va./Brentsville) for four hits as the hosts erupted for four runs and cruised to the 6-3 win.

The second game saw both teams knotted at three runs apiece until Shenandoah shook off the effects of the first game and the long trip to register a four-run two-out rally in the top of the eighth inning. The explosion was punctuated by back-to-back doubles from Adam Kuchemba (Plains, Penn./Coughlin) and Steve Todd (Hillsboro, Va./Loudoun Valley) that drove in three of the Hornets' four runs in the inning.
