FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Shenandoah went toe-to-toe with Methodist College for nearly 60 minutes in a USA South women's lacrosse match Saturday afternoon, but a late surge gave the Lady Monarchs a 14-10 victory.

Shenandoah (4-4 overall, 2-2 USA South) dominated early in the first half of the contest, taking a 5-1 lead against MC (6-4, 3-1) with just under 16 minutes remaining, but the Hornets would be unable to continue pouring it on.

The Lady Monarchs made some necessary adjustments and held SU to just one more goal in the first half, while netting five more of their own to head to the intermission with the score tied at 6-6.

Methodist picked up in the second half exactly where it left off in the first and took the lead for good when Lindsey West scored just 25 seconds into the second stanza.

The Hornets battled hard throughout the second half with a pair of goals from junior Sharon Sparwasser (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) and one of Erika Bradd's (Front Royal, Va./Warren Co.) team high three scores, but the hosts held Shenandoah to a single goal in the final 17 minutes as they cruised to the 14-10 final.

West led all scorers with six goals and two assists for the Lady Monarchs.
