WINCHESTER, Va. - The SU women's lacrosse team used a fast start to propel itself to a 16-9 non-league victory over visiting Bridgewater College Monday afternoon.
Shenandoah (5-4) scored five of the game's first seven goals and took an 11-4 lead into halftime against Bridgewater (1-8).
The Eagles, who were forced to play three players down due to injuries and two red cards, got back into it by going on a four-goal run wrapped around the halftime intermission. SU stopped the run on a Kelly Matagiese (Cape May, N.J./Lower Cape May) goal at the 21:39 mark, and BC was unable to get closer than five goals the rest of the way.
Shenandoah had six different players score and five of them: Matagiese, Sharon Sparwasser (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood), Erika Bradd (Front Royal, Va./Warren County), Lauren Prentice (Westminister, Md./Liberty) and Becky Smith (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) each recorded a hat trick. Sparwasser added two assists to give her a game high five points on the afternoon.
Lauren Smith and Megan Malehorn had four goals each for the Eagles.
