LANCASTER, Pa. - The Shenandoah University baseball team clinched at least a .500 record Wednesday afternoon with a 4-1 non-league victory over Franklin & Marshall College.
Shenandoah (21-15) is now six games above .500 with four regular season and at least two USA South Tournament games remaining. This will be the first time that SU has finished at least an even record since the 2000 team finished 31-11.
The Hornets got the three-run win over F&M; (15-9) with three runs in the top of the eighth inning. SU got the three runs by combining two hits, a hit batsman, a passed ball and a Diplomats error that led one unearned run.
Designated hitter Dusty Crostic (Chesterfield, Va./LC Bird) led off the frame with a single and was sacrificed to second. After Scott Disch (Front Royal, Va./Warren County) was hit, each moved into scoring position on a David Jenkins (Front Royal, Va./Warren County) single.
Crostic scored the winning run in the next at-bat when he raced home on a passed ball. The Hornets added insurance runs on a squeeze by Nick Sborz (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) and when F&M; third baseman Tony Breslau could not handle Josh Bosley's (Oakland, Md./Garrett CC) ground ball.
Sophomore Gerry Sasse (Philadelphia, Pa./Penn Charter) earned his seventh victory in 10 decisions by throwing three innings of scoreless relief. Sasse allowed just one hit while striking out two in moving into second place on the SU season list for victories. He is now four victories from Chris Kees '03 record of 11 wins set in 2000.Â

Kevin Anderson also announced Wednesday that his squad will play Southern Virginia in the home finale on April 23. This game was added after the second game of the Christendom College doubleheader last week was rained out and opened up a spot in the Hornets schedule.
Shenandoah completes its regular season USA South Conference slate this weekend when Chowan College visits Winchester for a Friday-Saturday three game series. Friday's opening game begins at 6:00.
