NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Shenandoah University scored the opening goal of the contest, but host Christopher Newport reeled off the next 12 goals on its way to 16-5 USA South Conference women's lacrosse victory Wednesday afternoon.

SU (5-5 overall, 2-3 USA South) got the opening goal just 49 seconds in on an unassisted tally by freshman Erika Bradd (Front Royal, Va./Warren County), but this would be the only goal the Hornets would score in the first.

The Captains (6-8, 3-1) got four goals from Kristen Conques and three each by Elaine Kirby and Kristyn Hankins to build a 12-1 lead by the break.

Becky Smith (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) scored twice for the visitors following intermission with Sharon Sparwasser (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) and Kelly Matagiese (Cape May, N.J./Lower Cape May) adding one each.

Conques led all scorers with eight points on four goals and four assists, Kirby had a game high five goals and Hankins four for CNU.
