SALEM, Va. - Shenandoah University got the opening goal of the game, but host Roanoke reeled off five straight goals to a take a 5-1 field hockey decision Wednesday afternoon.
Freshman Jenn Iuliano (Fairplay, Md./St. James) scored an unassisted goal in the 17th minute to give SU (1-2) the early lead, but the Maroons tied it just 63 seconds later.
RC (3-2) then scored two more goals in the next six minutes to seize control of the contest. They outshot the Hornets 28-1 for the game and had an 18-1 advantage in penalty corners.
Shenandoah goalie Wendy Taylor (Cape May, N.J./Lower Cape May) made 10 saves in the loss.
