BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Shenandoah University volleyball team played two close matches, but came out on the short end of each in the opening round of the Moravian College Tournament Friday afternoon.
Shenandoah (0-2) lost 3-0 to both Gallaudet (22-30, 23-30, 23-30) and Muhlenberg (26-30, 28-30, 29-31).
Freshman Michelle Chandler (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles West) led the Hornets in the opening match with eight kills while classmates Jennifer Thompson (Forest, Va./Jefferson Forest) and Christina Greene (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) added nine assists and eight digs, respectively.
Greene continued her strong play with 12 digs and six kills in the nightcap, while senior Hannah Williams (Salem, Va./Glenvar) had a team high 13 kills.
Chandler was tops in the assists department with 16.
Complete box scores will be available Saturday evening.
Shenandoah concludes play Saturday morning with consolation matches against St. Mary's of Maryland and DeSales.
