WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University held a three-point halftime lead, but Christopher Newport University used a dominating performance on the glass to outlast homestanding SU 66-63 in USA South Conference women's basketball action Wednesday evening.

CNU (4-7, 1-0 USA South) outrebounded the Hornets 58-33, including 33-19 in the second half to propel itself to victory over Shenandoah (2-7, 0-3 USA South).

Down by two points with 16 seconds remaining, sophomore Alicia Sanders (Wardensville, W. Va./East Hardy) went to the line with a chance to tie the game. Unfortunately for the home fans, Sanders missed the second of her foul shots and the Lady Captains rebounded.

After Jessica Hutt and Victoria Liaros each hit one of two from the line for CNU, Shenandoah had a last second three-pointer tie, but Joia Davis' (Trenton, N.J./Stuart County) saw her top of the key attempt go off the rim.

Senior Candace Bryant had 20 points and 17 rebounds for the visitors with Jessica Nutt adding 15 points.

Netagia Foreman (Winchester, Va./Sherando) led SU with a game high 24 points and Davis chipped in 13. Sophomore Cassie Womack (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield) continued her stellar play under the boards with 12.
