RALEIGH, N.C. - The Shenandoah University women's basketball team nearly made up all of its first half deficit, but fell just short Sunday afternoon in a 67-63 USA South Conference loss at Peace College.
Peace (6-3, 2-1 USA South) held a 37-30 halftime lead only to see Shenandoah (2-6, 0-2 USA South) cut the gap to just one, 64-63, after freshman Netagia Foreman (Winchester, Va./Sherando) canned a jumper with 31 seconds remaining.
The Pacers then converted a second chance bucket with 10 seconds left and SU unable to answer in the waning moments. PC hit one of two free throws with four ticks showing to provide the final margin.
Peace took the seven point halftime lead as it capitalized on 19 Shenandoah turnovers while committing just eight of its own. All-USA South performer Tia Saunders led the hosts in the first 20 minutes with a half-high 10 points and eight rebounds while Foreman led the Hornets with nine points.
A 6-0 Hornets run midway through the second got SU to within three at 47-44 with 11:26 left, but Shenandoah was unable to get any closer a 7-0 run from the 1:23 to 31 second marks set the stage for the finish.
Foreman led with a game high 23 while Cassie Womack (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield) added 10 with nine rebounds.
Saunders was one of three PC players in double figures. She had 18.
