WINCHESTER, Va. - For the second straight game, it was a penalty kick that was the difference in the Shenandoah University men's soccer contest.
This time it was USA South Conference rival Methodist that pulled the trick in a 2-1 victory Saturday afternoon at Shenandoah.
Shenandoah (4-8, 0-5 USA South) scored the game's initial goal in the 44th minute when freshmanÂ
William Phouminh gathered in aÂ
Jace Kennythrough pass and slipped his shot past MC keeper Jeremy Belnap.
Unfortunately for the Hornets, Methodist (4-7-1, 1-1) answered back in the second half.
Chris McDonald tied it in the 63rd minute when he ripped a loose ball following a Monarchs corner kick off the crossbar and in from 20 yards out.
Four minutes later, MC was awarded the penalty kick following a foul on McDonald in the box and Jimmy Izaguirre was selected for the try. Izaquirre calmly placed his shot to the right - SU keeperÂ
Chris Peter had no chance as he guessed left.
The Hornets had one last chance with 10 minutes remaining when they were awarded a corner kick, but freshmanÂ
Fabian Rowe was high with his header attempt.
