WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University got its second women's basketball victory in the last three games Tuesday night with a 58-46 non-conference win over the College of Notre Dame (Md.)
Shenandoah (2-4) sent the Gators down to their first defeat of the season by holding CND (4-1) scoreless for the first 4:45 of the contest. SU scored the first 11 points of the game before the Gators Catherine Vecchioni hit a layup at the 15:15 mark.
The Hornets eventually expanded this lead out to 13 points before a 8:58 dry spell allowed their visitors to cut the deficit to just one, 15-14. Junior
Dee Fisher then snapped the long scoreless streak with a 3-pointer with 5:12 left.
SU took a 23-18 lead into the halftime lockerooom and after seeing CND get to within one point following a Monica Cherry layup, once again turned up the defensive pressure.
The Hornets, who forced 16 turnovers with steals and saw the Gators turn it over another 12 times on their own, scored the next 15 points of the game to take a 40-22 lead with 11:34 remaining.
CND would cut the deficit to four, 47-43 by the 3:02 mark, but would saw its hosts finish the game on an 11-3 run to provide the final margin.

Shenandoah is off for the next 12 days for final exams. The Hornets complete first semester play on December 18 with a home game against St. Mary's of Maryland.
