WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University opened up its 2005 baseball season Saturday afternoon by earning a split with visiting Penn State - Altoona.
Wearing red uniforms for the first time in school history, Shenandoah (1-1) came back to win game two 3-1 after losing the opener 6-4.
PSU-Altoona (1-1) won the opener by touching SU starterÂ
Gerry Sassefor four runs on one hit and two Hornets errors in the fourth. The Hornets answered back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame before getting within on after scoring a single run in the fifth, but the Lions were able to push across the game winning run in the top of the sixth.
PSU-A got that winning run on a two-out rally. Catcher Ben Ritchey double to right, chasing Sasse for freshmanÂ
Jason Capobianco. Capobianco then gave up a single to center to Andy Bagley, which scored Ritchey.

Sasse took the loss after giving up five runs (one earned) on four hits in 5.2 innings. Eric London went six innings for the visitors to earn the win.Â

Jason Burgess bounced the Hornets back in game two by scattering six hits over five innings in the 3-1 win. JuniorÂ
Nick Sborz got his first save of the season by getting the final four outs on a strikeout, a groundout and a game-ending double play.
Shenandoah got all the runs it would need in game two in its first at-bat.Â
Scott Disch got the rally started with a one-out single to center and advanced to second whenÂ
Adam Kuchemba was hit by a pitch.

Steven Todd then drove in both Disch and Kuchemba with a double to right center. One inning later, SU got an insurance run when Daniel Bowers single to right, moved to second on Ziccardy's single and scored on an RBI ground out byÂ
Bobby Collier.
Burgess struck out three and walked three to earn his first collegiate victory in six decisions.
