WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University led for the majority of its USA South Conference contest with league leader Greensboro Saturday afternoon, but the Lady Pride rallied for a 64-58 victory.
Greensboro (17-6, 11-2) clinches a share of the regular season title with the win; they can take the title outright with a victory Sunday afternoon at Christopher Newport.
Shenandoah (6-17, 2-11) knows it will now be the No. 8 seed at next week's USA South Conference Tournament. SU needed two wins this weekend and a pair of Methodist losses to grab the No. 7 seed, but Methodist made the Hornets game today academic after they defeated Christopher Newport 55-54.
The Hornets took a 24-22 lead into the halftime lockerroom largely on the strength of a great defensive effort against Greensboro's Kim Enoch. Enoch, who torched SU for 25 points and 21 rebounds in the two team's first matchup of the season on January 29, was held to just two points on 1 of 5 shooting in the first half.
Unfortunately for the Shingleton Gymnasium crowd, Enoch turned it on after the intermission. She finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds, and scored seven of her teams final nine points of the contest. The one basket she didn't score, a Ruthanne Clark jumper with 1:17 remaining, proved to be the game winning bucket.
Shenandoah had a chance to retake the lead immediately after Clark's conversion, but juniorÂ
Joia Davis missed a pair of free throws at the 57 second mark. Enoch preceded to hit five of her six chances from the line following Davis' misses, clinching the game (and the championship) for her club.
Davis led SU with 14 points and 12 boards whileÂ
Cassie Womack had 12 points and a game high 14 rebounds. FreshmanÂ
Netagia Foremanrounded out the double digit scorers for the hosts with 13 points.
