GRANTHAM, Pa. – Shenandoah University used a strong start Thursday afternoon to propel itself to a 6-1 victory over homestanding Messiah in non-league baseball action.
Freshman
Taylor DuFrene improved to 3-1 on the season by scattering four hits in the complete game victory over the Falcons (8-8-1).
The Hornets (15-11) got three runs in the top of the first as
Daniel Ziccardy led off with a double, was sacrificed to third and came home on
David Jenkins' infield single.
Following a passed ball, freshman
Sam Fullerton drove in Jenkins before coming around to score on an RBI single by junior
Matt McCormick.
DuFrene then went to work – he faced just one batter over the minimum in the first two innings and did not allow a run until Peter Dyson hit a one-out home run in the fifth. He finished the game with six strikeouts and two of the Falcons four hits were infield singles.
Ziccardy, Jenkins and
Adam Duckett all had two hits apiece for SU with Duckett driving in a run on a sixth inning double.
