DANVILLE, Va. - No. 6 Shenandoah University eliminated seventh seeded Averett University from the 2005 USA South Conference baseball tournament Thursday afternoon with a 1-0 victory.

SU (20-16) got a single run in the bottom of the fifth and saw starter Gerry Sasse scatter five hits to send the Cougars (6-31) down for the second time this season.

Shenandoah now moves on to play No. 3 CNU on Friday at 1:15.

The Hornets got the single run when junior Matt McCormick hit a one-out double off the leftfield wall to plate designated hitter Jason Eberz, who had reached on a single to left.

Sasse allowed just the five hits, all singles, to improve to 4-4 on the season. He allowed no hits after the sixth inning and retired the final 10 batters in order.

Sophomore Adam Duckett led the offense with a 2 for 3 performance.
