WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University was held to just four hits, but made them count Monday evening in a 3-1 non-conference victory over Bridgewater College.
Shenandoah (21-18) got two runs in the third and one more in the fourth to dispatch Bridgewater (23-12-1). The Eagles got their lone run in the eighth inning.
SU starterÂ
Keith Fritz went the distance to even his record at 4-4 this season. Fritz threw a four-hitter while striking out 10 and walking just one. It was his second complete game of the season.
The winning runs came in the third when centerfielderÂ
Scott Disch walked and advanced to third onÂ
Daniel Ziccardy's single up the middle.Â
David Jenkins plated Disch with a sacrifice fly to left and thenÂ
Adam Duckett hit a double down the rightfield line that scored Ziccardy.
After SU added another run one inning later, Fritz coasted to the victory. He allowed just two hits after the fifth (both in the eighth) and struck out at least one batter in every inning.
Ziccardy, who transferred to Shenandoah from Bridgewater before the 2004-05 academic year, led the Hornets offense with a 2 for 4 performance that included scoring the winning run.
