WINCHESTER, Va. - No. 7 Salisbury University sent host Shenandoah packing in its season finale Saturday afternoon with a 13-6 non-conference victory.

Salisbury (25-6-2) scored three runs in the first and never looked back against the Hornets (23-19). The Gulls, who had 18 hits, did most of their damage against Shenandoah starter Jason Burgess (3-3). Burgess was chased after giving up three runs on four hits in 1/3 of an inning.

Following Burgess, four other pitchers saw action for the Hornets.

Coach Kevin Anderson's club got its runs in the third, fifth and ninth innings. Down 13-3 heading into what most likely will be its last at-bat of the season, Shenandoah scored three runs on three hits in the ninth. Freshman Jason Eberz and sophomore Daniel Ziccardy drove in runs with singles through the left and right side, respectively.

Ziccardy finished the day 3 for 5 with the run batted in while Matt McCormick drove in the Hornets second and third runs with a fifth inning home run to center. The dinger was his first of the year.

Leadoff hitter Greg Lemon led Salisbury with a 6 for 6 day that included four RBI. He drove in those runs with a fourth inning single and a three-run double in the seventh.

His offense was more than enough for Scott Byers (3-0). Byers gave up all six runs on 10 hits and one walk in eight-plus innings. He gave way to Nick Dunk three batters into the ninth after striking out eight in the game.
