WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University completed its non-conference slate with a 20-10 victory over Randolph-Macon Saturday night before 3123 fans at Shentel Stadium.
SU (2-1) scored two touchdowns in the first quarter to seize the early lead and then held on against Macon (0-3).
JuniorÂ
Brandon Lacey got the scoring started for the hosts when he capped a 14-play, 73-yard drive with a 5-yard touchdown run at the 6:10 mark of the first. Just under six minutes later, seniorÂ
Anthony Frates scored the first of his two TD's on the night when he bulled over from the R-MC 1.
Frates would finish the evening with a game-high 150 yards rushing on a second most in school history 40 carries.
The Yellow Jackets got the only score of the second quarter, hitting a Reggie Moore 20-yard field goal with 3:33 left before halftime to make it 13-3 in favor of Shenandoah.
A Clive Williams interception of a Tyler Ball pass set up the Hornets next score - Frates made it 20-3 when he converted the 2nd and goal play from the Macon 3.
The Jackets attempted to make it interesting when they answered right back with an 11-play, 56-yard drive that ended with Ball on a quarterback sneak on 3rd and goal from the 1, but they could get no closer.
SU piled up 326 of its 342 yards on the ground while Macon had 175 of its 225 through the air. Individually,Â
Richard Redwood added 78 yards to Frates' 150 for the bulk of the Hornets total.
Ball finished 19 for 35 for 177 yards and two touchdowns for the visitors.
Shenandoah opens up USA South Conference play next Saturday night at home against Ferrum College.
