WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's basketball team celebrated one birthday and one career milestone Sunday afternoon in the Hornets 57-51 USA South Conference victory over Peace College.
Shenandoah (5-7, 2-1 USA South) gave head coachÂ
Kathy Orsini her 150th career win (and 60th in the league) as well as giving juniorÂ
Cassie Womack a 21st birthday present with the six-point win over the league-leading Pacers (7-4, 2-1).
Despite starting out the game by scoring the first 14 points as Peace missed its first 15 shots from the field, SU found itself in a dogfight.
Amanda Cross finally snapped the scoreless streak for the visitors with a jumper at the 11:56 mark, which also ignited a 15-0 PC run.
From this point on, the two teams stayed within four points of one another until juniorÂ
Alicia Sanders extended the Shenandoah advantage to six with two free throws with 13 ticks left. Those final two points of the contest capped a game that had featured eight lead changes and eight ties.
SophomoreÂ
Netagia Foreman led all scorers with 18 points while Sanders added 16. Womack, the birthday girl, pulled down a game-high 16 boards to help the Hornets to a 45-44 advantage on the glass.
Seniors Tia Saunders and Lindy Cartwright had 13 and 10, respectively, for Peace.
Box Score/Play by PlayÂ
SU is off until traveling to Averett University next Saturday for a USA South Conference contest.
