WINCHESTER, Va. – Greensboro College maintained its first place standing heading into the final game of the first round of league play with an 84-67 USA South Conference victory over host Shenandoah Saturday afternoon.
Greensboro (12-5, 6-0 USA South) led the entire contest against the Hornets (5-10, 2-4) as they shot 33 for 63 (51.6 percent) from the field and held a 49-41 advantage on the glass.
Shenandoah got as close as three points, 23-20, following a Stephanie Harrold layup with 8:12 to play in the first, but GC reeled off a 15-3 run to compete the half.
The Lady Pride eventually extended this advantage to 18 points before a Shenandoah 7-0 run brought the hosts to within six, 43-37, with 13:57 remaining. Unfortunately for the hosts, Greensboro answered with a 7-0 run of its own and never let the advantage fall into single digits again.
Junior Staci Humphrey led all scorers with 26 points – seven of her eight field goals were from behind the three-point arc. GC also got 18 points and 11 rebounds from Sirlena Moore.
