WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University shook off a slow start Tuesday night to overwhelm visiting Wilson College 72-48 in non-conference women's basketball action.

Shenandoah (7-13) shot a seventh most in school history 85 times to overcome a 5 for 20 start from the field against the Phoenix (5-13).

After jumping out to a 9-4 advantage by the 13:24 mark, SU saw its visitors take as much as a six-point lead as the Hornets went cold from the field. In addition to missing 15 of its first 20 shots, Shenandoah was just 5 for 14 (35.7 percent) from the foul line.

However, coach Kathy Orsini's team used a 30-22 edge on the glass and nine steals over the final 7:09 of the first to key a 23-9 run and take a 36-27 lead into the lockerroom.

The second half brought more of the same as SU again shot 34.1 percent from the field and scored 36 points to cruise to the 24-point win.

Junior Cassie Womack played just 21 minutes, but turned in a career-high 18 rebounds to go along with six points and six steals. Alicia Sanders and Joia Davis shared high-point honors with 15 while freshman Mary Short had 13 points off the bench.

Dana Bennett had 11 points and 11 rebounds for the visitors.

The Hornets eventually outrebounded Wilson 58-44.
