NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Host Christopher Newport University gained a measure of revenge against visiting Shenandoah in a 16-6 USA South Conference women's lacrosse victory Saturday afternoon at Captains Field.

CNU (4-1, 3-0 USA South), who has been eliminated from the USA South Conference Tournament by Shenandoah the past two seasons, jumped all over the Hornets (1-5, 0-3) in the first 30 minutes of play Saturday.

The Lady Captains led 2-0 by the 27:31 mark of the first and took a 10-2 lead into the halftime lockerroom as they took 29 shots to the Hornets nine before the break.

The lead ballooned to 13 when Kristyn Hankins scored her fifth and final goal of the day with 8:27 left, but SU finished the game on a 3-0 run. Junior Erika Bradd had two of these goals, at the 5:05 and 1:35 marks, while Joia Davis got the run started off of a Kelly Matagiese assist at 7:32.

Davis led the Hornets with three goals, Bradd added two and Matagiese one to go along with her assist. Kristen Conques led the hosts with seven goals and two assists.

Goalie Wendy Taylor had 17 saves in the losing effort for coach Lois Bowers' club.
