NORFOLK, Va. - Host Virginia Wesleyan scored the final four goals of the first half Sunday afternoon to break open a tie game and cruised to a 15-8 non-league women's lacrosse victory over Shenandoah.

Kelly Matagiese goal for the Hornets (1-6) at the 18:10 mark, VWC (3-1) answered with four goals in the final 12:48 of the half.
Matagiese finally snapped this string with her third goal of the game at the 96 seconds into the second, but the Lady Marlins answered that tally with a 5-0 run and were not threatened again.
Shenandoah did manage to cut the deficit to five, 13-8, when Matagiese capped a 3-0 SU spurt with another unassisted goal, but would get no closer. The hosts put the final nails in the coffin with goals at 3:31 and 3:14 to provide the final margin.
VWC outshot the Hornets 46-17 for the game, including 26-7 in the first half. They also won the groundball battle, 64-40, and took 18 of the game's 25 draw controls.
