WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University made a game of it in the final 30 minutes, but could not dig out of five-goal hole it dug for itself in a 15-9 non-league women's lacrosse loss to Frostburg State Wednesday afternoon.

After Shenandoah (4-7) scored the game's first goal at the 25:23 mark, FSU (3-4) reeled off three straight to take a lead it would not relinquish.

Jenn Iuliano snapped this string for the Hornets with her goal off of a Joia Davis assist with 17:35 to play, but the Bobcats scored the final four goals of the half to take a 7-2 lead into halftime.

Just 11 seconds into the second, Davis made history for SU with her unassisted goal. The goal, the first of two she tallied on the day, gave her 100 for her career. She is the third SU player, after Deanna Estes '98 and current junior Kelly Matagiese, to score 100 career goals for the Hornets. Estes, a 1998 Academic All-American and North/South game participant, is the all-time leader with 151.

Davis' goal ignited a 3-1 run for the hosts that brought them to within three at 8-5 by the 24:46 mark. Unfortunately for the home fans, Frostburg scored the next two goals and Shenandoah would get no closer than that three-goal deficit the rest of the way.

Carly Rihard led the victors with five goals while Lindsay Lamont added three and Maria Schrum and Stefanie Ritz two each.

Matagiese had three goals with Davis and Iuliano chipping in two apiece for SU.

Hornets goalkeeper Jen Silverman had a season-high 21 saves in the losing effort.
