FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Methodist College clinched the 2006 baseball regular season title Sunday afternoon with 7-5 and 5-4 victories over visiting Shenandoah.

The 7-5 victory was the completion of Saturday's halted game two. The game was tied 0-0 in the middle of the second when it was called on account of rain - Methodist (22-11, 13-5 USA South) scored four runs in the bottom of the frame to take a lead it would hold throughout.

The pair of losses sends Shenandoah (23-13, 7-11) into the tournament beginning on Wednesday as the No. 6 seed. SU will face third-seeded Ferrum in the 4:30 game in Burlington, N.C.

The Monarchs get a bye as the No. 1 seed and will take on the winner of the No. 4 Greensboro vs No. 5 Christopher Newport at 8:00 Wednesday. The GC/CNU game kicks off the tourney at 9:00 a.m.

The Hornets banged out 14 hits in the first game Sunday, including a pair of RBI singles for junior David Jenkins . Jenkins' second single, in the eighth, tied the game at 5-5.

Methodist won the game in its half of the eight when Kyle Eudy drew a leadoff walk, was sacrificed to second and came home on Brad Davis' single to right.

Jenkins, Daniel Ziccardy, Ryan Anderson, Adam Duckett, Matt McCormick and Adam Kuchemba all had two hits in the loss.

Sophomore David Frelin (1-3) took the loss after allowing one run on two hits and three walks in 3.2 innings.

Shenandoah jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs off of Monarchs starter Kurt Kelly (3-2) in the nightcap, but saw its hosts score single runs in the first, second and third innings. SU tied the game at 3-3 and 4-4 with a single run in the sixth and seventh, but Methodist matched the Hornets output in the bottom of both of those innings.

Kelly allowed nine hits, including two each by Daniel Bowers and Scott Disch , but struck out five in the complete game victory.

Freshman Hunter Calloway, who came on in relief of Matthew Davis in the middle of the sixth, took the loss after giving up one run on four hits in 2.0 innings.
