WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University played its fourth straight nailbiter Wednesday night, but could not extend its men's basketball winning streak to four as Christopher Newport escaped with an 84-81 overtime victory.

Shenandoah (6-6, 0-1) had the final shot of regulation, but senior Moutkar Fawehinmi saw his three-point attempt glance off the back rim.

Christopher Newport (9-4, 1-0) saw SU scored the first points of overtime, but battled back to steal victory by outscoring its hosts 5-2 in the final 69 seconds.

Edward Riley gave the visitors its first lead of the OT on a layup at 1:09 and after Lenzie Adams tied with 47 seconds left, Donta Selden scored what proved to be the game-winner on a 15-footer 13 seconds after Adams' layup.

Shenandoah missed a game-tying layup on the ensuing trip down the floor, and was forced to foul Selden after the Captains pulled down the rebound.

Selden made one of two, setting up a possible game-tying 'three', but Adams again missed the mark at the four-second mark.

Christopher Newport shot a sizzling 61.4 percent (35 for 57) from the field for game, including 4 of 5 in the extra session to overcome a 49-41 SU advantage on the boards.

The Captains also scored 50 points in the while Shenandoah shot a season-low 9 of 21 (42.9 percent) from the free throw line.

Jeremiah Lawrence led all scorers with 27 points and 18 rebounds while Fawehinmi added 19 points and Adams 13. Korey Lewis had 24 and Riley 22 for CNU.
