RALEIGH, N.C. - The Shenandoah University women's basketball team ran its winning streak to three games Sunday afternoon with a 61-57 USA South Conference victory over Peace College.
The win also allows Shenandoah (10-3, 3-0 USA South) to surpass last season's win total. This is also the first time since 2003-04 that the women have reached double digit victories.
Despite leading by as many as 15 points, SU had to rally as Peace (5-7, 0-3) rallied to take a one-point lead midway through the second half.
Trailing 45-29 after sophomoreÂ
Stephanie Harrold hit a jumper with 16:05 to play, Peace responded by scoring 21 of the game's next 25 points and took a 50-49 lead with 6:37 left.
SeniorÂ
Alicia Sanders finally snapped her club out of it with a three-pointer at the 4:32 mark, but PC answered with a tying bucket on the next trip down the floor.
Peace took its second and final lead when Christy Freeman hit one of two from the line with 3:38 remaining, but SU got a Harrold jumper with 3:01 to play to take a lead it would not relinquish.
The Hornets did not score another field goal the rest of the way, but hit 7 of 12 attempts from the line to ice the victory.
Harrold led victors with 15 points with Sanders adding 13. Sanders classmate,Â
Cassie Womack, had eight points and a game-high 20 rebounds before fouling out midway through the second.
Brittany Lynn had 14 points for PC.
Box ScoreÂ
Shenandoah is off for the next six days and returns to the court on Saturday for a 2:00 home USA South contest against Averett University.
