CARLISLE, Pa. – Shenandoah University suffered through an extremely cold shooting performance Sunday afternoon in a 79-39 loss to host Dickinson College in the consolation game of the Pizza Hut Shootout.
Shenandoah (0-2) missed all 12 of its field goal opportunities in the first half as Dickinson (1-1) raced out to a 44-12 advantage. DC shot an even 50 percent (16 of 32) from the field in the first 20 minutes and was 9 of 12 from the charity stripe.
The Hornets, who got six first-half points from
Stephanie Harrold and four from
Alexis Hargbol, did not convert a shot from the field until Harrold had a stick-back 65 seconds into the second half.
By then, the Red Devils had 34-point lead.
The loss is the worst of coach
Michelle Guyant-Holloway's 28-game SU career and the 39 points scored are the lowest total since the Hornets scored 36 against Christopher Newport in the 2002 Dixie Conference Tournament quarterfinals.
Harrold was the only player in double figures. She had 12 with freshman
Stephanie Holton adding nine.
Hargbol, who suffered through foul trouble for most of the game and played just 18 minutes, was the team's lone representative to the all-tournament team. Hargbol scored 26 points and pulled down 19 rebounds in the two contests.
The Hornets shot 11 of 41 (26.8 percent) from the field for the game and committed 36 turnovers. Dickinson forced 24 of those miscues with steals.
