WINCHESTER, Va. – Shenandoah University put itself in position to clinch a home game at next week's USA South Conference women's basketball tournament by downing visiting Greensboro College 73-55 Friday night before a boisterous Shingleton Gymnasium crowd.

SU (15-8, 8-5 USA South) snapped a seven-game losing streak to the Pride (17-7, 10-2) with the victory. Shenandoah had not defeated GC since the 2003-04 season.

Even with the big win, coach Michelle Guyant-Holloway's club must win tomorrow over Methodist to earn the No. 4 seed. The Lady Monarchs are one game behind SU in the USA South Conference standings, but would hold the tie-breaker should they win the 2:00 contest. Regardless, the two teams know they will meet on Tuesday in the tournament quarterfinals.

Shenandoah started fast against its visitors Friday night, scoring the first six points of the game and eight of the first 10 before the Pride got its offense into gear.

GC eventually erased a seven-point deficit with an 11-0 run from the 13:54 to 8:20 marks, but this would be the only lead it would hold all night long. SU finished the half on a 21-3 spurt and led by as many as 16 points before heading to the lockerroom with a 34-20 advantage.

The second half brought more of the same as the hosts never led its advantage drop below 16 points and led by as many as 26 points on three different occasions.

Shenandoah sealed the victory not only by making nearly half of its shots following the break, but by complete dominating on the boards. The Hornets grabbed 58 of the game's 99 rebounds, including 28 of 45 in the second half.

SU also had four players in double figures, led by sophomore Stephanie Harrold's game-high 19 points. Senior Cassie Womack had 10 points and a game-high 16 boards.

Staci Humphrey, the leading scorer in the USA South, had 18 points for GC, but was just 8 for 25 from the field and committed three offensive fouls.
