WINCHESTER, Va. - Coach Kevin Anderson's baseball team erased an early deficit Saturday afternoon and recorded its first USA South Conference victory of the 2007 season with a 10-7 win over visiting Averett.

Shenandoah (5-3, 1-2 USA South) trailed the Cougars (20-5, 1-2) 4-0 after AU placed a four-spot on Hornets starter Matthew Davis in the second inning.

SU answered with three of its own in the bottom of the frame and then broke the contest open with a five-run fourth.

Anderson's club had five hits in that fourth inning, including consecutive RBI doubles from seniors David Jenkins and Ryan Anderson. However, it was a third senior, second baseman Daniel Ziccardy, that drove in the go-ahead run. Ziccardy gave the hosts a 5-4 lead with his single to center that scored classmate Steven Todd, who had reached on an infield single.

Averett kept itself in it with single runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth, but Shenandoah answered in the sixth and eighth with runs of its own to maintain a comfortable lead.

Five relievers combined to finish out the game for the Hornets with freshman Daniel Eadie earning the win. Eadie (1-0) tossed a scoreless 2.1 innings of relief immediately after Davis to pick up his first collegiate victory.

Junior Drew Dobbins recorded the game's final eight outs to earn the save. He allowed one unearned run on two hits and one walk.

Cougars starter Justin Crowl (2-2) was charged with the loss. He gave up eight runs (five earned) on nine hits against three walks in 3.2 innings of action.

Shenandoah pounded out 16 hits with Ziccardy's 3-for-5 afternoon leading the way. Jenkins and Anderson both had two hits and two RBI with sophomore Scott Lambert posting a 2-for-5 afternoon.

Junior transfer Josh Campbell made the most of his first start in an SU uniform by going 3-for-5 with 3 RBI on a home run and a double.

Eric Sibrizzi, John Lesueur and Jake Loye all had two hits for AU.
