WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Christopher Newport University scored used a big run midway through the first half Sunday afternoon to key a 22-4 USA South Conference women's lacrosse victory over host Shenandoah.
CNU (4-1, 3-0 USA South) broke open a 3-2 contest with a 9-2 run to finish the first half against Shenandoah (1-2, 0-1). The Lady Captains then closed out the game by scoring all 10 second-half goals.

Kelly Matagiese made it 3-2 in favor of the visitors with the first of her two goals at the 14:01 mark of the first, but this would be the only offense the hosts would register until freshmanÂ
Jen Franco converted a free position shot with 6:40 remaining in the half.
In the interim, Christopher Newport scored seven straight, including two each from Kristen Conques and Shayna Sargent, to take control.
Shenandoah managed 12 of the 29 second half shots, but CNU keepers Theresa Sparks and Gayle Robinson made eight saves to keep the Hornets from adding to their total.
Conques led all scorers with five goals and one assist while Bonnie Hansen added four goals.

Lindsay Clarke scored her first career goal to round out the hosts total.
