Baseball Shuts Out Misericordia

WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University got itself back on the winning track Monday afternoon with a 9-0 non-league baseball victory over College Misericordia.

Shenandoah (6-4) scored one run in the first, and added another in the third before breaking it open with a four-run fifth.

Misericordia (0-9) placed three runners in scoring position against SU starter Rhys Wolford in the first two innings, but Wolford worked out of it both times.

Wolford improved to 2-1 on the young season by scattering four hits and two walks in seven innings. He struck out three before turning it over to juniors Byrne and David Frelin to close out the Cougars. Both relievers allowed one hit and struck out two in one inning of action.

The Hornets plated the winning run in their first at-bat when senior Daniel Ziccardy beat out an infield single and stole second. With two outs, sophomore Scott Lambert singled through the left side to score Ziccardy.

Shenandoah had 11 hits on the day, led by Lambert's 2-for-3 afternoon that included three RBI. Ziccardy was also 2-for-3 while junior Drew Crawford had two hits in five at-bats.

Darren Morgan took the loss for CM. He allowed six runs on 10 hits and two walks in 4.2 innings.
