Marlins Down Women's Lax

WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Virginia Wesleyan combined a strong start with a dominating offensive performance Tuesday afternoon to down Shenandoah University 17-6 in non-conference women's lacrosse action.

The Marlins (3-4) scored five of the game's first six goals and answered a two-goal SU run with six straight to send the Hornets (1-4) down to their fourth straight defeat.

VWC scored the contest's first three goals, two on free position shots, in the first 6:20 to take total control.

Shenandoah briefly got back into it when Arissa Malick and Sara Humphreys scored back-to-back goals at 7:34 and 7:02, but the Lady Marlins reeled off 12 of the next 13 tallies to coast to the victory.

SU closed out the game's scoring with Lauren Carpinello and Jen Francogoals at 1:19 and 39 seconds, respectively.

Jillian Boyd led all scorers with seven goals and one assist - she had six goals in the first half, while Laura Norris and Aimee Sraver both had hat tricks for the visitors.

VWC took 41 of the game's 60 shots, won 16 draw controls and had a 16-14 advantage in groundballs.
