Baseball Wins Third Straight

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Shenandoah University ran its baseball winning streak to three games Saturday afternoon with an 8-6, 11 inning USA South Conference win victory over Greensboro College.

The Hornets (16-8, 4-5 USA South) bounced back from a three-run GC (17-13, 3-8) ninth-inning rally to score two runs in the top of the 11th.

With one out in that 11th, David Jenkins singled to right center and scored on Ryan Anderson's triple to left center. Anderson also scored on the play when a throw from Pride shortstop Alex Guerra to third base in an attempt to cut down Anderson sailed wide.

Anderson's triple, his fourth of the season, also ties him for the all-time lead in that category at SU. Both of the people he is currently tied with, Geoff Williams '00 and John Cowell '02, played four years in a Shenandoah University. Anderson is in his second season at SU after transferring from Potomac State (W. Va.) Junior College.

The late game offense made a winner of senior Daniel Bowers (1-1), who pitched the final two innings for the Hornets. Staked with the two-run lead in the 11th, Bowers allowed a leadoff single but then got two flyouts and a game-ending strikeout.

Freshman Scott Van Dusseldorp led the victors with a 3-for-6 afternoon while Anderson, Jenkins, Daniel Ziccardy and Adam Kessel all had two hits. Kessel drove in a game-high four runs and had a two-run HR in the third.

Torrey Poholsky (2-1) was the loser. He allowed two runs on three hits in 2.0 innings.

Box Score

SU will attempt to register its first conference sweep of the 2007 season tomorrow with a 1:00 game against the Pride.
