ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - Shenandoah University won its second USA South Conference women's lacrosse game of the 2007 season Saturday afternoon with a 13-12 overtime victory over host N.C. Wesleyan.

With the game tied at 11-11 heading into the six-minute OT, seniors Courtney Beard and Kelly Matagiese both scored in the first three-minute session to give SU (4-7, 2-3 USA South) a two-goal advantage.

NC Wesleyan (3-10, 1-4) answered with a goal of its own in the second three-minute OT period, causing the Hornets to go into a stall.

The Lady Bishops stole the ball and had an 8-meter shot to force a sudden-victory overtime period, but SU keeper Wendy Taylor stopped both the 8-meter shot and an ensuing attempt to preserve the victory.

The win assures Shenandoah of a home game at next week's USA South Conference Tournament - SU can finish no worse than tied for fourth in the league and holds the tie-breaker over both Averett and NC Wesleyan, the two teams who can still tie the Hornets.

AU and NCWC play on Tuesday in the conference regular season finale. The loser of that game will play the winner of the SU/Methodist game, which will be competed Monday at 4:00. The winner of that contest earns the No. 3 seed, the loser the No. 4. Regardless of Monday's outcome, both Methodist and Shenandoah will host a quarterfinal round game on Tuesday, April 10.

Matagiese led the Hornets in scoring with six goals against the Lady Bishops while Arissa Malick, Lauren Carpinello and Courtney Beard all had two goals.

Allie Stylc had a game-high eight goals and one assist for NCWC.

Taylor stopped eight Bishops shots with her counterpart, Sarah Seligman, making 17 saves.
