GREENSBORO, N.C. - Host Greensboro College salvaged a USA South Conference baseball split with Shenandoah University by winning 5-1 Sunday afternoon.
Greensboro (18-13, 4-8 USA South) completed its conference slate on a positive note by breaking a 1-1 tie with a three-run sixth. Shenandoah (16-9, 4-6) had tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the sixth on aÂ
Ryan Anderson RBI single.
Anderson singled through the right side with two out, scoringÂ
David Jenkins from second. Jenkins laced a double to left center immediately preceding Anderson's at-bat.
Unfortunately for the Hornets, this was the teams only offense on the day. GC starter Chatham Bray (7-3) scattered seven hits and did not walk a batter in tossing the complete game. He struck out two.
Jenkins had two of Shenandoah's seven hits on the afternoon and Dan Poindexter was 2-for-4 with three RBI for the Pride. Poindexter also drove in what proved to be the game-winning run with a two-RBI single in the sixth off of SU starterÂ
David Frelin (1-3).
Frelin gave up four runs (three earned) on five hits and four walks in 6.0 innings. He struck out four before turning it over toÂ
Jason Byrne for the start of the seventh.
Box ScoreÂ
SU has Monday off and travels to Eastern Mennonite on Tuesday for a non-league doubleheader beginning at 1:00.
