WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University matched its 2006 baseball win total Thursday afternoon with a 10-3 non-league victory over Gettysburg College.

The Hornets (25-15) scored one run in each of the first three innings before breaking it open with two runs in the fifth and another in the sixth.

Gettysburg (23-9) briefly got back into it with a three-run seventh, but SU scored four in its final at-bat to seal the victory.

Besides matching last season's win total, the triumph also guarantees that coach Kevin Anderson will lead the team to the second-most wins in school history for the fourth consecutive year. With two games left in his fourth season at the helm of the Hornets, Anderson has led the team to 23, 23, 25 and 25 victories.

Anderson's club completes the 2007 season tomorrow and Saturday with a home-and-home series with Catholic.

Sophomore Rhys Wolford (4-3) earned the victory by allowing the three runs on 10 hits in 7.0 innings. Freshman Colin Michael came on the start the eighth, and gave up just one hit in the final two innings to pick up his first collegiate save.

Offensively, SU rode the extra-base hit to the win. Six of the Hornets 10 hits went for extra bases, including the first three.

All of the extra-base hits were doubles, with Josh Campbell and Adam Kessel knocking in RBI doubles in the second and third.

After a scoreless fourth, Shenandoah got what proved to be the game-winning runs when David Jenkins doubled to left to score Daniel Ziccardywith one-out in the fifth. Kessel then gave the hosts a second run with a RBI single to left to plate Jenkins.

Mike Ciancio (4-5) was the losing pitcher. He gave up an unearned run in the bottom of the first before turning it over to three different Bullets relievers.

Ziccardy, Kessel and freshman Mike Goode had two hits each for the Hornets. Andrew Freeburger had a game-high three hits in four at-bats for Gettysburg.
