WINCHESTER, Va. - Washington & Jefferson ended a marathon non-league field hockey contest with host Shenandoah by tallying the game-winning goal in double overtime.
Nearly five minutes into the second OT, Beth Kelley converted a Laura Peery cross to give W&J; (3-1) the sudden-victory win over Shenandoah (0-3).Â
Kelley's goal also ruined the Hornets (0-3) best chance for victory so far this season. FreshmanÂ
Meggie Dutill had given SU the early lead with an unassisted goal at 29:04.
The Presidents tied the game on an Amanda Howard unassisted tally at 42:25, and neither team was able to find the back of the net in the remainder of the 70-minute regulation session.
Shenandoah took two of the three shots in the first 15-minute overtime period, and had five penalty corners to W&J;'s two, but could not finish off the contest.
The Presidents outshot the Hornets 24-4 and also held a 19-11 advantage in penalty corners.
