Weigle Earns First Career ODAC Player of the Week Honor

FOREST, Va. - Shenandoah University field hockey's Kierney Weigle has earned her first ODAC Player of the Week award, in an announcement by the league's office on Tuesday afternoon.

Weigle, a sophomore, scored five goals and added two assists in a 2-0 week for the nationally ranked Hornets. The forward scored six goals all of last season.

Her week started in the team's 7-1 win over Thomas College (ME) with a pair of goals and assists. Weigle assisted on the team's first goal of the season, before adding a goal in the second and third quarters. The second assist of her game came in the second quarter, putting SU up 3-0.

On Saturday, versus Dension, the Hornets fell behind 2-0, but Weigle added three straight goals to put SU on top. It marked Weigle's first career hat trick.

After one week of play, Weigle leads the ODAC in goals per game and points.

The Hornets are in action twice this week. They head to Hood College on Wednesday for their first road game of the season, before coming home on Saturday for a non-conference game against the University of Mary Washington.
